OUR STORY
INDO Furniture began in 1996 after a surf trip to Indonesia opened my eyes to the incredible craftsmanship of handmade, solid wood furniture. I was already restoring antiques back home, but something about the skill and spirit I saw over there stayed with me.
After a rough first attempt at importing, I gave it one more shot and that second container changed everything. The quality was amazing, and so was the relationship I began building with the makers.
Since then, I’ve been working with the same family-run factory in central Java for over 30 years. They’ve become like family. I’ve watched their kids grow up, shared meals in their home, and built a business grounded in trust, respect, and shared values.
At INDO Furniture, we import timeless indoor and outdoor pieces from sustainably sourced teak and other natural materials, all made in Indonesia by skilled artisans. We work closely with a network of local factories who still use traditional techniques, and we’re proud to support their craft.
OUR FURNITURE
We bring a constantly changing selection of Indonesian furniture and homewares back to New Zealand (Northland), with pieces chosen for their natural materials, character and durability.
You might find solid teak indoor and outdoor furniture, dining settings, coffee tables, sideboards, garden sculptures, pots, solid stone, marble, petrified wood hand basins and plenty of other unique pieces.
SOLID TEAK
Teak is one of the materials we love most. Naturally durable and highly resistant to moisture, rot, mildew and insects, its strength and natural oils make it particularly well suited to outdoor furniture.
Our teak is Indonesian Legal Wood Certified, sourced under Indonesia’s SVLK (Timber Legality Verification System). This means the timber is traceable and sourced in accordance with Indonesia’s timber legality requirements. Teak has a naturally beautiful grain and develops character over time. It can be left to weather naturally to a silver-grey finish, or maintained to retain more of its original colour.
We choose teak for its combination of durability, longevity and natural beauty — creating furniture that can be enjoyed for many years, indoors or out.
Our stock changes regularly depending on what we bring back from Indonesia, so the pieces shown in our gallery are a glimpse of what we source rather than a catalogue of current stock.
